What is Getting Warmer?

Aim: Getting Warmer is an urban based game for the prepared,
and unprepared, attempting to revitalize the city space into a
place for play, interaction and reaction.

Project: Throughout 2008 a series of hand bound books will be released throughout Melbourne's public spaces. Release dates
and clues to the locations of the books are published on this site. For the prepared participant the game works as a type of treasure hunt, as they must follow the clues to retrieve the books. The unprepared participant, on the other hand, may
happen to chance upon one of the books as part of their daily activities. All books are easily removable, giving participants the choice to take and treasure; to throw away; or to leave for someone else.

What are the Objects?: All books are thematically linked
by the Payne Family, a medium sized family of five from the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. All members of the Payne family
are great collectors and hoarders; in fact they belong to a
family that for generations has been famous for its ability to collect. It is their collections, which offer some insight into their individual personalities, that form the content of all
the books (For the more inquisitive mind, more information on
the Payne Family can be found in Inquisitive minds: further reading). While the exact size and shape of the books remains a secret, all books could be considered as precious items; they
are all handcrafted from high quality materials and exist only
in additions of seven.
